1. PURPOSE
We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, age, caste, social class, country, among other identifying characteristics.
This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behaviour as well as the consequences for unacceptable behaviour.
The India School on Internet Governance (inSIG) organising team invites all fellows, organisers, speakers, and other participants to help us realise a safe and positive conference experience for everyone.
2. EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
- Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert conference organisers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.
- Participate in an authentic and active way. In doing so, you help to create inSIG and make it your own.
3. SCOPE
We expect all participants (fellows, volunteers, speakers, organisers, venue staff, and other guests) to abide by this code of conduct at all inSIG venues and social events.
4. UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR
Unacceptable behaviours include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct by any attendees of inSIG and related events. All inSIG venues may be shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations.
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
5. CONSEQUENCES OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR
Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated whether by fellows, organisers, venue staff, volunteers, or other patrons of inSIG venues.
Anyone requested to stop unacceptable behaviour is expected to comply immediately.
inSIG organizers or their designee(s), or security may take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the meeting without warning.
inSIG designees tasked with complaints handling, compliance and enforcement of our Code of Conduct may take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from any meeting, session, session activity, and the entire duration of the conference.
inSIG reserves the right to prohibit attendance at any future meeting.
6. WHAT TO DO IF YOU WITNESS OR ARE SUBJECT TO UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR
If you are subject to unacceptable behaviour, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behaviour, or have any other concerns, please notify a inSIG organising team as soon as possible or report to the inSIG Code of Conduct Compliance Team (inSIG-CCCT), these designees will be identifiable by a special Badge mentioning the same.
The inSIG-CCCT will be available to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, to provide escorts, or to otherwise assist those experiencing unacceptable behaviour to feel safe for the duration of the event.
The individual who identifies inappropriate behavior may: (i) communicate with the person(s) responsible and attempt to resolve the issue informally; and/or (ii) promptly report to the inSIG- CCCT Designee(s), appraising them with the facts giving rise to a belief that inappropriate behavior has occurred and cooperate fully in the ensuing investigation of the complaint. inSIG organisers, and the Designee(s) will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance. We expect participants to follow these rules at event venues and social events.
7. HOW TO LODGE A COMPLAINT
If you are the subject of unacceptable behavior or have witnessed any such behavior during inSIG event, please contact insigorganizer@gmail.com, the Registration Desk, the inSIG Code of Conduct Compliance Team (inSIG-CCCT), these designees will be identifiable by a special Badge.
