About inSIG

inSIG, proposed at Hyderabad just prior to the ICANN57 Meeting, will utilize the presence of eminent experts in Internet Governance who may be participating in ICANN57. The venue for inSIG 2016 is 119 Nilgiri, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-H), Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The class timings are 9:00 am – 7:30 pm.

inSIG will have a batch size of 25 participants from India. There may be a few participants from neighbouring countries who may want to use the opportunity to attend a SIG plus the ICANN.

Fellowships (15 in number) are available for Indian participants. Fellowships cover accommodation, food and registration fee, but not travel. Representatives of existing ICANN ALSes in India, members of the Internet Society or ALSes (prior to 1 July 2016), and representatives of civil society, academic and research organizations  will be given preference for Fellowships. Fellowships do not include a per diem. Fellows are expected to attend all sessions and to provide a report of their experience. Fellows will be encouraged to attend the ICANN57 meeting (although the accommodation under the Fellowship will be only for the duration of inSIG).

Ten non-fellowship seats are available for Indian citizens, which require payment of a fee of Rs. 8,000 that covers the programme, lunch and tea. These are meant for participants from the government, industry, and research/technology institutions. A few seats are also open for non-Indian participants (a fee of USD 200 would be payable in this case).

Applications for Fellowships will be open from 15 Aug 2016 to 15 Sep 2016. Results will be communicated by 1 October 2016. Registration for paid participants will also open on 15 Aug 2016. Due to the limited number of seats, allocation may be done on a first-come-first-served basis.

Who can apply?

Any individual from India, irrespective of their stakeholder community (Government, Business, Civil Society, Technical or Academia), who has an interest in Internet Governance, and has in the past contributed or wishes to contribute to IG processes, may apply for this programme.

Selection Criteria

Fellow and non-Fellow candidates will be selected by a Selection Committee, based on different criteria such as background, experience and contributions, and keeping in mind parameters such as geographical and gender balance and diversity.

Certificates

All candidates who attend the full programme and complete all assignments given to them will be issued a certificate of completion.

Sharing of Teaching Material

inSIG proposes to share teaching material (background papers, video recordings of sessions etc) with other SIGs in the region based on a consensus at APSIG level.
